The Contagious Podcast – Ep. 27: Barbie Wilde Interview

As Pinhead himself would say, “We have such sights to show you,” in episode 27 of The Contagious Podcast! Hellraiser fans (and podcast hosts Chris Rennirt and Lien Mya Nguyen Oost are as excited as “explorers in the further regions of experience” to interview actress, writer, singer, and more, Barbie Wilde! Famous for her role as the “Female Cenobite” in the 1988 sequel, Hellbound: Hellraiser II, Barbie is already legendary with horror fans around the world, at Space Jockey Reviews, and no less in galaxies beyond our own!

In Hellbound: Hellraiser II, Barbie added even more to the Female Cenobite’s allure and quiet ferocity, making her fascinating, terrifying, and real in our nightmares (just as the best of movie monsters should be). Thanks to Barbie, the Female Cenobite is, forevermore, an icon of horror cinema; one we love as much as we fear. While just being the Female Cenobite would be enough, Barbie is much more, with a career to impress even the most accomplished–and lots of stories to tell too! In this episode, we have not only questions about her time on the set of Hellbound, but as many more about her work in general.

What’s covered? Just about everything–Barbie’s beginnings in acting, how she got the role of the Female Cenobite, her thoughts on the cenobites as monsters, stories from movie sets, her time in the makeup chair for Hellbound, topped off with behind-the-scenes secrets you’ll want to know–like why the Chatterer had no eyes in Hellraiser and eyes in Hellbound. And what’s the scoop about “Deep Throat” and those bloody neck wires? Is there really a “deeper” meaning?  Also included are details about Barbie’s short story from the Hellbound Hearts Anthology, “Sister Cilice” (telling the story of the Female Cenobite), The Cilicium Quadra, as well and her book titled The Venus Complex–which Fangoria calls “One of the finest purveyors of erotically charged fiction around.” What’s more is the scoop on her latest film in the works, Barbie Wilde’s Blue Eyes! As usual, topping it off, are Chris Rennirt’s “Five Random Questions” to get to know Barbie even better, as the charming, ever-lovely person she is (as a human)!

And, above all (or below all in cenobite hell), know these words, spoken softly but powerfully by the Female Cenobite: “Didn’t open the box. And what was it last time, ‘Didn’t know what the box was?’ And yet, we do keep finding each other, don’t we?” After the podcast, you’ll likely be quoting Dr. Channard: “And to think I hesitated.”
